Football (Soccer).

Soccer ( Football )

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear this word is "Passion" and "Simplicity" . I know how you feel.

I am not a man of statistics but what I do know is that every time a major international competition approahes, most notably the World Cup and European Cup, my whole family including all non-fans of football come together setting aside their differences to cheer for their respective teams.

Yup, we are more similar than we thought. We all share the same emotions. "Happiness, Fear, Grief, Sorrow, Anger, Greed....". Football just becomes a medium through which we can all be together. Transcending "Race, Religion, Caste and Creed". But for many football is a religion.

Even in countries such as the United States, India and Australia where the dominant sport isn't football (soccer), there are significant number of leagues, clubs and people who promote and play the game.

But I guess the major cause of football being the global game is its simplicity, unlike other team sports where either the rules are too mind boggling or the equipment needed is just too expensive.

Anyone having a ball like thing with one or two post made out of anything available with at least 4 players can have an exciting game of football, and yes the surface should be as plain as possible.

Playing football beats a workout any day. It's just plain fun. Simple, raw , exciting and fun.

Football emphasizes team work to its maximum. Yes a few players can change the complexion of the whole game but without the other supporting team mates, no-one can do anything.

Unlike American Football where the quality of a team almost entirely depends on the quality of its Quarter Back, football is more of a complete team game.

Thrilling. Football is absolutely thrilling and of course to some degree addictive too. Ever read the book "Fever Pitch - by Nick Hornby"?

It's a popular culture. No one can deny this fact. Football is a basic onstinct. Give a toddler who just learned to walk a ball. You know what he/she'll do don't you?

The fact of the matter is that football is part of who we are. I dont even need this article to prove my point. Let's just take a vote. You'll see that the overwhelming majority of people will vote for this game. There is nothing to understand. It's just plain simple. The global game.
