Poetry: Just friends

by Shen-Li Lee

Created on: November 18, 2009

Sometimes I wonder what's in your mind,

If I could see, what would I find?

You know my mind, you know I care,

My feelings though, you do not share.

We'll just be friends, that's all it is,

But times I wish it more than this,

And times I'm glad that's all we are,

Because our friendship, I dare not mar,

And because old flames still sting,

Old memories, the fears they bring.

So although you did not know,

You were wise to let me go.

I was too rash, still too unsure,

Just how much I could endure.

I'm too confused, don't know my heart,

The uncertainty tears me apart.

When I don't see you for a while,

I miss your company, miss your smile.

I long to throw my arms around you,

Long for you to hold me too.

Yet sometimes I'm scared to be close,

The physical touch is what I fear most.

I guess this is the best that I can hope for,

Until you and I are ready for more.

And if you and I are never to be,

As long as we're friends, that's fine with me.
