How to watch TV on the computer

Household computers and laptops have become the ultimate tool for entertainment within our humble abodes. Among social activity, email, research, homework, and a number of other things, the household computer has become an alternative way to watch TV. Most of us are spending more time on the computer than we do with any other entertainment media in our homes. If you don't believe that, take a nice evening stroll out one night, and notice as you walk past open viewed windows, people sitting at home on their computers. Go out again the next night or even one night the next week, and you'll likely find those same people once again sitting in front of their computers.

With all the time spent on computers, and the different sources provided online for watching our favorite TV programs, it should be no surprise that society is watching TV online and that this pastime is growing at a constant high yield pace.

If you are reading this article and just happen to be one of the few people who hasn't quite caught on yet, not a problem. The process of watching TV online is rather simple. I can get you geared up and on your way in no time.

If you are looking to watch cable programming online, then your choices will be limited. Although we do pay for internet service, we aren't exactly paying for cable programming, so if you're looking to watch TV online for free, know that you will have limited choices of some basic cable programming, but of course, most local television programming.

The first step to viewing your favorite program online is to go to the website belonging to your show's airing station. For instance, if your favorite program is perhaps, Ugly Betty, which views on ABC, then you would want to go to www.abc.com online. If you have a favorite program that plays on CBS, then you would want to go to www.cbs.com. And it's really that simple. Whatever station your program airs on, you find that station's website online, and maneuver around the site for phrases, such as watch episodes, or full episodes. Find the appropriate phrase, click on it, and you should be well on your way, although for some websites, you will need to download some sort of flash player, which usually isn't a big deal.

There are other websites that have viewing options for episodes from a variety of television stations, all in the same place. These would be sites like Hulu.com, which has fast become one of the more popular sites for random television viewing, or you can visit more obscure sites, like www.quicksilverscreen.com, which holds a sort of you tube personality as anyone can become a member of the site and post programs for people to watch. The drawback with www.quicksilverscreen.com is that many programs get pulled from their site soon after they're posted because of program licensing.

As you can see, there's not much to it. If for some reason you can't view your favorite local show from their airing station's website, you can always do a simple search in your online browser for the show and see what comes up. But really, it shouldn't be that complicated if you are looking to watch currently running, local television.
