How to Choose a Bridal Handbag
Finding the perfect handbag for your wedding day may seem like a minor detail in the big scheme of things, however, it's still a detail you don't want to overlook. As the saying goes, you'll need something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Can you use your handbag as one of these things? Of course! But, there are many other important factors to consider so, before you head out in search of the perfect bag, remember to take these things into consideration: size, style and color.
Size
When contemplating what size of bridal handbag you're in search of, think about what you'll be using it for. Will it be in pictures? Will it be tucked under the table the whole night? What exactly do you need it for just for show or to hold important accessories you'll need throughout the day? Typically, most bridal handbags are small, but big enough to hold your essentials for the big event, such as powder, lip gloss/lipstick, perhaps a few safety pins in case something goes awry and a mirror to make sure you're continually looking fabulous. Speaking from personal experience, mine was big enough to carry all of those things along with something else my veil! If you're like me and want to switch from a veil to flowers in your hair in between the ceremony and the reception, a handbag makes for the perfect spot to stash your veil in the meantime.
Style
Are you a girl who likes beads and baubles? Are you eccentric and want something that stands out, perhaps with palettes and rhinestones? Or are you someone who adores simplicity, clean lines and no frills? Take these thoughts to heart when choosing the style of your handbag. If your dress is simplistic and you choose to shine with your jewelry and maybe even shoes add your handbag into the mix so you can glitter from head to toe. If your dress has some sort of embellishment, you could look for something with the same type of style, whether it be sequins, embroidery or a simple flower.
When choosing a style, concentrate on the details and make sure it complements the dress you have chosen. You don't want a busy purse that distracts from a busy (but beautiful) dress, while you also don't want a plain dress and a ho-hum purse. When searching, detail and style are sometimes one in the same, but what makes the look yours is something that reflects your personal style.
Color
This is pretty easy. If you're more of a safe type of person, look for a purse that matches the color of your dress, such as ivory, white, pearl, etc. There are different brands that can be dyed to match the color of your dress. If you're more of an eclectic type, let your personality shine. This could be your something blue (if it matches your wedding color scheme) or it could be red, for example, if red is part of your color scheme. If your shoes are donned with rhinestones, look for something similar to match again, look back at the details.
Whether it's your something old, something new, something borrowed or something blue, make sure it's true to you something you'll look back on years from now and be glad you chose. Who knows, maybe one day you'll have a daughter and she can use it as her something old or borrowed if you still want to keep it!
