Soaring, high above the land, the sea,
Dazzling, brilliant, fluttering through the blue,
Arching towards that bright yellow sun,
Over and under puffy cotton clouds like needles and thread.
They dance around tree tops,
They skirt over the water, barely breaking the surface,
Skating like tiny winged dancers.
They disappear with the horizon,
And as the winter begins to overcome the land,
Harsh and uncompromising,
They fly, fly high and fast towards the sun,
Towards the warmth and the love of a land
So distant and so serene,
Until again crickets hum
And the rush of the wind through the trees gives new life,
New meaning to their old summer home,
Where they may soar through the blue once again.

hovers unseen
upon desolate skies
waiting to be
