Decorative window film is a fast and fabulous way to make a striking design statement in your home. It comes in many different colors and textured designs and is very easy to apply!

Decorative window film is a fairly new material, having been developed by the plastics industry, but it has certainly made its mark on the interior design industry.

Window film can be used for many different uses throughout the home to add interest and privacy. Here are some of the ways you can use it yourself.

Frosted glass effect

Decorative window film comes in a variety of textured designs on white as well as in colors. You can use the film to give you privacy when you have windows still need to let light in. Use the film instead of a blind or lace curtain.

The film can be applied over the whole of the window or just to the lower half. This is especially useful in bathroom and kitchen windows where drapes would be unsuitable.

This is also a good technique to use in garden sheds where you don't want passers-by looking in.

Stained glass effect

Decorative window film can be used to create a stained glass window effect on your windows. Some firms even supply the designs ready-made to your specification so that you can just apply them to the windows. You can of course make your own design by cutting shapes from different colors of film. Apply them to the window and outline with black or gold lines.

Mirrors

You can use decorative film to add interest to your mirrors. Choose a color that co-ordinates with your room dcor and add a border to your mirrors. Miter the corners for a neat effect.

Glass place mats

Decorative film can be used to make fabulous place mats. Simply use the film on the underside of plain glass mats for individualized style.

Stencilling

You can cut your window film using stencils to make fantastic swirls or sharp contemporary designs. Apply the film to the whole of the window and tape the stencil over the top. Use a sharp craft knife to cut the stencil shapes into the film making sure you don't score the glass below. Peel away the unwanted layers.

On the car

Decorative film doesn't just have to be used in the home. Use it on your car! You can cut out all sorts of interesting shapes to use on your car windows. Cut the shapes out while the film is still on the backing paper and place the film on the inside of the windows. You can make sun shields with different layers of color, or with words cut out of one color.
