Life isn't perfect: How to beat 'the system' and live successfully

It is my belief that in love, in life, and in all things that surround those two items, that we will never find pure success, but instead simply allow life to guide us to a simpler form of prosperity known as happiness...for too much of either can lead to catastrophe, and too little will leave barely the shell of what we once were.

I always dreamed as a child that one day I would grow up to be successful, married, with at least one child; and essentially leading up to what everyone believes to be this fabled perfect life. Well, I'm not sure if I was reading the wrong books as a child, or if my view point of so many things in the world had been clouded prior to the loss of someone very near and dear to me...but I've learned to grow up since then.

Is there a specific lesson to life that we are to learn? Well, I don't know the thoughts of everyone out there of course in regards to this matter, but in my personal opinion, we only have to learn the things that get us through our own lives. We don't have to concern ourselves with anything other than that which surrounds us on an every day basis. I believe this fact simply because I see people every day (even myself) that are stressed out because of things going on in their own lives...and yet we all seem to have this unfounded belief that we must also concern ourselves with the lives and problems of people that we have barely met; and barely know the names of.

Perhaps we are all incapable of seeing that we are doing anything wrong in wondering about other people's problems; that in some fashion we are 'only trying to help.' (although we feel somehow that we just must know..as if we cannot possibly go on until we know why this acquainance was upset...for what though?...to use it as nothing more than gossip and conversation with another grouping of people?) In that sense, we are all assholes.

Now, to be completely fair to ourselves, we are people; and people have been told for as long as they have been around that 'we all make mistakes'...so I suppose that in that sense, we were essentially destined to be assholes from the very beginning of time. Perhaps if we all learn to accept this, handle our own problems, and worry a little bit more about ourselves than other people; life would be just the tiniest bit easier.

Sometimes I wonder, will life ever be perfect? The answer is simple. Nope. I mean, look at the extraordinary odds for having a 'perfect life.' We all read up on the "rich and famous" to check on their problems, and I suppose in some sick way we do this just to see how much larger their problems are...or to force ourselves to be envious of the personal belongings that we will never own. "Ohhh", we say to ourselves. "Look at that cracked out, alcoholic movie star with the Lamborghini..."...pity and envy...all in one dose. Thats all that most of us out there really want. We need to have someone else to look at and judge. It is as if we literally need celebrities to satisfy those very unusual but human characteristics of ourselves. Why can't we just look into our own lives and be content?

Its funny...funny and only mildly depressing for mankind I suppose.

I just would like to think that I will one day be exactly where I need to be...happy. Wherever your life leads you, it is most important that you make it out with your dignity, a clear head, and hopefully surrounded by people that love you for all that you are. If at the very least we succeed in that, we should consider ourselves a success
