Poetry: Thanksgiving Day football

by Paula Love

Created on: November 17, 2009

The Thanksgiving meal is over and the food is in the fridge.

The Aunts are in the dining room dealing up a game of bridge.

Brother is in his bedroom playing games on his Playstation.

Mother, still washing dishes, is dreaming of relaxing on vacation.

Grandpa sat down on the couch and wasted no time dozing off.

Dad's nap in the recliner began about three seconds after kickoff.

They've been snoring for half the game now so surely they won't take note

If I sneak up on them silently and steal away with the remote.

But the second I change the channel Dad's eyes open just a crack.

He growls as loudly as a bear, "Hey, I was watching that! Turn it back!"
