Although I cannot give a complete no answer on this one, for the majority of the population who is currently on welfare, I believe that they are on welfare because the US government has made it easier for many people to live on the welfare system than to go out and not only look for a job, but go there every day and collect a paycheck and pay taxes. I believe that the main reason that welfare came about was to assist those who lost their jobs during the great depression until the economy rebounded and there were jobs available to them once again. The welfare system was never intended as a permanent solution for families, but somehow that is what has happened for millions of Americans who have become too complacent on that gauranteed check that arrives promptly in the first week of every month, just like clockwork.

I have known many people who have used the welfare sytem to assist them in getting their bills paid on a temporary basis until they could get back on their feet. Some people become sick and lose their jobs, others have unforseen circimstances that prevent them from keeping their current job, such as a sick family member or a transportation issue. Maybe their home caught on fire and they lost everything in it. There are countless reasons that people may need the temporary releif of the welfare system, but there is only one reason that they remain on welfare beyond the reasonable amount of time that it would take to get back on their feet, they do not want to. The majority of the population in this country are not that way, they would prefer to get up every morning and go to work and pay their taxes without ever asking anyone, including the US government, for anything. These are the same people that pay taxes so that the members of our government receive a paycheck and our roads are taken care of and our children are able to go to school for free. Without these people, there would not be much of a country to live in. The US would probably look more like a third world country than any other in the world. But the reason that so much of the tax money goes towards the welfare system is because there are so many people who collect welffare checks because they are simply too lazy to work and they are completely content with doing nothing every day.

I have heard of people who have been on welfare since their children were very young and now that their children are grown up and they can no longer collect money for having them as a dependent. At this point,
