A Slice of Yesteryear
Call me crazy if you want to
But I prefer my cranberry sauce from a can
It takes me back to my childhood days
When, for me, Thanksgiving dinners first began
Things have changed so much since then
Just like adulthood, fancy dishes can be overrated
Mom's tried new recipes
But that jellied sauce can never be duplicated
From the way it comes out in a perfect mold
Sides of the can still imprinted
As the memories in my heart I still hold
So just slice me off a piece of that Ocean's Spray
And take me back to a simpler Thanksgiving Day
Maybe you're thinking I should challenge my palate
Or enjoy a new dish without reservation or fear
But sometimes I'd rather trade my spot at the grown-up table
For just a taste of yesteryear
