Dry skin affects people of all ages, mainly during periods of cold or hot weather and low humidity. Here are a number of helpful tips on how to treat dry skin, and nurse it back to health. By taking proper care of your skin, you will eliminate the itching, flaking and cracking associated with it.

Bathing: Dryness is commonly caused by dehydrated layers of skin. The easiest way to to treat dry skin is by re-hydrating with a lukewarm bath. Soaking in the bathtub for 15 minutes or more will quickly replace the water in your skin.

Moisturizing: The next tip on how to treat dry skin is to use a cream moisturizer - preferably after you have soaked in the bathtub. This will help retain the moisture in your skin, especially at the deeper levels. You can also use mineral oil or petroleum jelly instead of cream.

Catch up on sleep: Skin cells regenerate during the body's rest periods. Make sure you receive enough solid sleep on a consistent basis and the health of your skin will slowly improve, mainly in color and texture.

Avoid certain soaps - There are a number of soap products on the market which have a a high chemical content (lye based). These harsh chemicals will quickly dry out your skin and remove any natural oils it may produce. Avoid this type of soap and opt for others with a a high fat content for another method on how to treat dry skin effectively.

Over cleansing - Our fascination with cleanliness may do more harm than good. It is unnecessary to scrub and vigorously wash away skin cells every single day. Give your skin a break by taking a day off and showering later the following day if you have bathed first thing in the morning.

Humidifier - Obtain a small floor humidifier if the air quality in your home is dry. Keeping moisture levels constant in your home (especially during the winter months) is an effective method to treat dry skin.

Improve your diet - Maintaining a balanced diet that includes servings of fruit, vegetables and whole grains promotes good skin health. Eating foods which are high in vitamin A and B is also an easy and simple method to treat dry skin.

By avoiding harsh conditions and products that can leave your skin dry and flaky, you can easily rejuvenate its quality. Keeping hydrated, eating healthier foods and having a consistent sleep schedule with enough hours to rest and recharge your body will quickly regenerate lost skin cells. If you follow these steps on how to treat dry skin, you will easily maintain a healthy, hydrated and soft skin for years to come.
