Poetry: Unwanted children

by Gary Betts

Created on: November 16, 2009   Last Updated: July 18, 2011

A thirteen-year-old girl.

Is rushed to ICU,

To save her American dream

From the deadly swine flu.

A thirteen-year-old girl,

A dropout from everything,

Searches in the cold for a meal,

In the garbage behind Burger King.

A thirteen-year-old girl,

Becomes a sex slave with no will,

Because her evil parents

Could not pay their cocaine bill.

A thirteen-year-old girl,

Given coke by her Philly pimp,

Keep her high on drugs all the time,

Then she will not leave the useless wimp.

A thirteen-year-old girl,

A prize in Somalia,

Is married to an old man,

For the conversion of moolah.

A thirteen-year-old girl,

For her entire life,

Is a young Chinese orphan,

"We want a boy," said a man and wife.

A thirteen-year-old girl,

Watches as the Janjaweed

Burn her village and family,

Then gang-rape her in lust and greed.

The thirteen-year-old girls,

And children short and tall,

They are harmed everyday,

And everyday some will fall.

These precious and defenseless children

From around this world without pity,

Their foreseeable future

Will be a dark and evil ditty.
