For many of us, pet cats are part of the family .When they become sick, we want them to get better fast, too. And just as there are home remedies to relieve human ailments, there are simple home cures for your furry beloved.
For an upset stomach-The same Kaopectate that calms your stomach can be used on your pet (also relieves vomiting).
Doses can vary from pet to pet, so check with your vet first, but basically use one half to 1 tsp. Kaopectate for every 10 pounds of your pet's weight-two to three times a day if needed.
To get rid of fleas, mix 1 Tbs. brewer's yeast and one half tsp. powdered garlic into your pet's breakfast.
Both are absorbed into the bloodstream, not only producing dozens of nutrients, but producing a skin odor fleas don't like; to them, your pet's skin will also taste bad!
Use this mixture daily-There should be an improvement in seven days. You can also add a few drops of eucalyptus oil (health food stores sell this) into your pet's shampoo.
For solving hairball problems-Rub or spread a little bit of petroleum jelly on your cat's front paw once a day for four days (the cat'll lick it off, lubricating the digestive tract to enable the hairball to move through).
Or you can add a pinch of Metamucil to the food (Metamucil's a fiber supplement, that's also good for hairball removal).
one half to 1 tsp. butter in the cat's food is another option, once a day for up to a week.
To relieve itching, dilute 1 Tbs. of Avon-Skin-So-Soft or Alpha-Keri body oil in a gallon of water and use it to spritz your pet's skin. You can also give your pet a cool bath for up to 10 minutes.
If your pet seems bored or depressed-Play some music or sing to them! Classical, pop, soft rock, oldies, country and even Christmas tunes will calm them (I'm not sure about hard rock or heavy metal; Personally, I'd opt for the abovementioned genres).
Home remedies will work fine for common ailments but ur pet's seriously ill (or injured), call and go to the vet! A few warning signs are: any lumps or bumps, stiffness or difficulty rising, sudden increase or decrease in water consumption or appetite, foul odor from the mouth, ears or skin, a fever of any kind, and any discharge from the mouth, eyes, nose, or other body opening.
Some pet-friendly table scraps that are actually healthy for your pet are: eggs, lean meats like beef and chicken, brown rice, barley, and broccoli, green beans and carrots.
To relieve coughing, turn on the humidifier or take your pet into the bathroom, shut
