If Christ were to walk the Earth in the 21st Century, would He be a Democrat or a Republican?! What a question! While the answer may seem obvious to most, lets look at some of the things Christ has done and taught before we come to our conclusion.
If you read in the book of Genesis, you will find early on the creation of man. God saw Adam and was pleased, but was not pleased with him to be alone. Therefore, he created Eve, a helpmate for Adam, out of Adam's own rib. God made the woman specifically to complete the man. Christ obviously would not be in favor of homosexuality. Furthermore, look at what happened with Sodom and Gomorrah. Most Democrats are in favor of homosexual marriage, while most Republicans are not. Does that mean Christ would be a Republican? I think we need to continue our research.
What about the great debate over abortion? If God brings life into this world, He clearly is not in favor of those who take it away. Of course, He would have to clear everyone's minds on "when" life actually begins; whether it be at conception or at birth. Then of course, even our laws would have to change. Irregardless of when a person believes life begins, Christ knows for certain (while most do believe from Scripture that life begins at conception). He would not associate with a political party that condoned murder.
We could carry all day long on this topic. We could talk about taxes and being good stewards of our money, taking care of the planet that Christ has given us, war, helping other nations, etc. This topic could get very deep and technical if we wanted it to. However, I don't feel a need to go that far in depth. I think the answer is very evident: Christ would not associate Himself with EITHER party! Many of you may have thought I would say Republican, but that would be idiotic.
We have created our political parties to satisfy OUR needs. Did Christ associate Himself with the Pharasiees and Sadducces when He walked this earth? No, He had His own agenda: following out His Father's will. If Christ were walking the earth today, He'd fight for what was morally correct. He wouldn't concern Himself with belonging to certain political parties or even churches for that matter. Christ IS the church. He has no need to do what the sinful nature of humans would do. He has a much greater purpose, and we could all learn from Christ's example.
I'm not saying that we can't associate ourselves with a certain party. However, every political party and every church will have their faults and misunderstandings. We have to be individuals and fight for what is right, and not just vote based on our political association.
