When I sit down to count my blessings
And what I'm thankful for
I find myself coming back to the basics
Realizing that less is more
Times have been tough
My pockets aren't as fat as they used to be
But I'm thankful for all I do have
Including this baked-to-perfection turkey
Because it's more than just a meal
It's about bringing something to the table
Not something to take lightly
When you realize not everyone is able
And as I take that first bite, I look around and see
Grandma, Mom, Dad, sisters
A bit dysfunctional, but we're still family
I see my children and grandson
Digging into my mac and cheese
The look of satisfaction on their faces
The camera was made for moments like these
And perhaps that is what I'm most thankful for
Snapshots of the most perfect moments captured in time
So when life starts moving fast and furious again
I can take a look back, reminisce, and unwind
Giving thanks as I retrace each memory with my eyes and my mind
Which is a blessing in and of itself
For I was once told I was going blind
But now I see
Everything I'm thankful for right in front of me

Poetry: What I'm thankful for
I need no life-changing fortune
To be grateful for what I have
No need to pursue happiness
When for my simple life I am
For wind and rain and green growing things,
Let us be thankful.
For gladdening sun and bright blue sky,
Let us be thankful.

Be thankful
For every day
For every person
In their own special way
Be thankful for blue skies
For warm sunlight
by Terrence Aym
The sun has risen once again.
The touch of your soft, warm hand,
The blossoming garden outside our door,
What I'm thankful
My humble thanks I give to Thee
For a life of relative peace and harmony
While some starve and suffer horrors untold
I feast
