Uses of fennel essential oils

Fennel Essential Oil: Extraction, Properties and Uses

The Botanical name of fennel is Foeniculum vulgare. It belongs to the Umbelliferae or Apiaceae family. It is also popularly known as licorice plant. The process of extraction of fennel essential oil is called steam distillation. During this procedure the seeds of fennel are put into use. The consistency of the oil so obtained is thin and the color is either faint yellow or clear. Fennel essential oil so obtained has medium to strong aroma. The extract is little spicy and sweet. The oil is obtained by steam distilling the crushed seeds to get a highly aromatic, licorice-smelling essential oil.

Fennel essential oil has a sweet, earthy, anise-like aroma that is energizing, vitalizing, and balancing. It is stimulating to the circulatory, glandular, respiratory, and digestive systems. It also may support feelings of well-being during the menstrual cycle.

Fennel essential oil is a vital element of aromatherapy. It is used alone and also with other aromatherapy essential oils.

The healing property of the essential oil is because of the useful chemical composition of the fennel essential oil. The oil comprises of Cineole, Myrcene, Eugenol, Geraniol and Pinene. It may also consist of Methyl chavicol, Limonene, Phellandrene, Thymol, Alpha Terpene and Fenchone. Since these chemicals are made up of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon, its use in metabolism upgrades are just outstanding.

Fennel has been used since ancient times to ward of evil spirits and protection. It has also been used for healing, stimulating and vitalizing reasons. It is used to treat bruises and sores, obesity and nausea. Modern science has also found it to be an effective cellulite and toxin remover. Fennel essential oil is also well known for its water retention properties.

Fennel essential oil can also be used to correct poor digestion. It is beneficial against intestinal parasites too. Menopause and other menopause-related-problems can also be combated by the use of fennel essential oil.

In aromatherapy, it is used for facilitating cardiovascular and respiratory system stimulation. It is also used as a tissue cleanser.

Fennel essential oil is very effective when used externally. However if you intend to use fennel essential oil internally, it's recommended that you consult an aromatherapy expert.

The use of this essential oilshould be avoided if you have a liver problem, epilepsy or cancer.Now that you are informed, decide what's best for you.
