The New Year is almost here and with its arrival, people are going to make new resolutions. Almost everyone will want to improve some aspect of his or her life, including high school students. Whether you are a geeky, goody two shoes or you are the famous jock who loves to spend his time playing football, you will want to make a few of the following New Year resolutions:
Do better in school
Even if you are a straight A student, you will still benefit from pushing yourself a little harder. If you want to go to college, be aware that the college admissions process is getting more and more strict by the year. It is not even enough to have a 4.0 GPA if you want to attend the best university. You have to be a well-rounded student. So, make a new resolution to become a well-rounded student, whether you are going to start playing a more active role in your community or you are going to learn how to play a musical instrument.
Strengthen/create relationships
This year, make the resolution to keep more of your friends. No doubt, high school is a tough time for friends. You will try to find the clique that fits you. You might want to make friends with the "popular" kids. You might want to stay away from the "popular" kids. Whatever your social situation, it is always a good idea to keep your true friends as close to you as possible. Friendships can easily fade over time if they are not "used." Keep your friendships fresh by keeping in touch with your friends even when your studies get more difficult.
Not only that, but try to recreate your connection with your parent(s). High school students, and teenagers in general, have a tendency to slowly gravitate away from their parents. Rekindle your relationship with your parents by going out to eat with them and spending more time with them in general.
Take on more responsibility
Teenagers are notorious for lazing around and watching television, letting their bedroom fall to pieces and leaving the dirty dishes in the sink. If this sounds like you, try to make a resolution to improve it. Do more dishes, vacuum the house more, clean up the bathroom more often, and organize your room once in a while. You will benefit from it, too.
Although most people do not stand by their New Year's resolutions, you can at least try. Remember, the more that you try and the more that you really want something done, the greater the chances of accomplishing it.
