Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a game that had been created for the Sega Genesis. It is the direct sequel to the first Sonic game created. Following the success of that, there was the thought of having a sequel and it became a reality nevertheless. Sonic was starting out and getting noticed. In fact, he was becoming popular and was able to rival Mario for years. This one however would be a bit different than the previous one but too much different though.

The story in this one has to do with Dr. Robotnik out for his revenge once again and Sonic has to save the day. This time, he has help in the hands of Tails. If anything, that makes it a whole lot easier to understand and figure out. Most games didn't have a drawn out story and that's fine. Robotnik wants to take over the world and it's up to Sonic to take care of it and stop him. In final conclusion on this, it is simple and right to the point. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 didn't have a great in-depth story and that's the way most games were.

Graphically, for the Sega Genesis, it did a fine job using it to the best of its ability. The backgrounds are colorful and well-detailed in the sense of actually making it look decent. Do keep in mind that as always, graphics do not and will not make the game. That is the way it is and the way it should be. If a game is based upon graphics only, it may not be as good as one that may not be as graphically enhanced but has a rather good story or good game play. Maybe even a combination of the two but most importantly, the game play has got to be good and keep you entertained. It is what it is in that respect and nothing else can be added.

The game play is virtually identical to the first game in that it is easy to control and is very responsive in that respect. Mostly, it would have to be considered a good thing. The game is challenging though in terms of trying to get all the Chaos Emeralds. If you do not get them, you may not get the best ending in it and that's not a good thing. You'll have to get everything and that can be difficult. The good part is that Tails can help and can be just a computer only for one-player.

This would be the game that would introduce the Super Sonic form, which has become a mainstay in the Sonic Universe. In this form, Sonic needs to collect rings in order to stay in that form. It makes Sonic seem invincible and can go through any enemy without a problem. Just keep that in mind when it comes to that.

In regards to Sonic 2, there isn't much else that could be added. The game was good and enjoyable without question. For those who are using the Wii, you can download it to the Virtual Console. Of course, there can be those who have a Sega Genesis but don't have this game to their collection. This is one to go ahead and consider. There are the Sonic Collection games that have been available in terms of a compilation of other Sonic or Sega games depending upon the collection of course. Even looking at the Xbox Live Arcade and that's about it in terms of knowing where to go. There could be other ways but Sonic 2 is a good game and worth looking into if you are into Sonic games.
