This book is a follow on from Victoria Stilwell's UK Channel 4 program, in which she displayed her expert advice on dog training.

If you've watched the series you will appreciate how wonderful this lady is at understanding and training dogs.

This then is the practical manual for all dog lovers, where she explains how dogs learn and shows how we can produce a well structured training programme for all our dogs and puppies.

Victoria Stilwell certainly knows her stuff and all her tips and training are well tried and tested, it covers choosing the right puppy and lots of other tips on how to approach any behavioural glitches, toilet training and basic commands.

So this book provides everything from dog talk, persisting barking, car journeys to diet, it is very easy reading and a good insight into a dog's mind.

If you are planning to adopt a puppy or dog into your home, this will be your bed-side bible on how to cope with all the problems and the correct way to train your new member of the family.

It helps you to integrate the puppy or dogs with your children, as this interaction is a very important to ensure that each of them know the correct barriers to obtain for a loving mutual life.

It will help you to train your pet to sit, lay down, roll over, heel and stay commands within a week by following the easy to understand training tips, even evaluates different types of collars and leads, which some other books pay very little attention to.

It gives good advice on balance menus for most breeds of dogs, giving you all the pros and cons on wet and dry foods, plus advising you on the products never to feed your dog.

Housetraining is also an important area to cover especially for a new puppy, with good advice and tips to avoid those nasty accidents.

It also explains in details why dogs do what they do and the reasons, which helps during the training period as you can understand why you should this in a certain way, and how to treat problem behaviours.

I would definitely recommend this book if your keen to reassure your self that your puppy or dog understands you and you understand them

Victoria Stilwell's book is set out so that it is easy to flick back through to review and find out what she suggests on certain subjects and is therefore very easy to use.

I recommend you definitely read this book before your new puppy arrives.
