BETHLEHEM CENTERS
Founded in 1940 by the United Methodist Women, Bethlehem Centers provides educational opportunities to low income children and their families. Groups and individual's are encouraged to volunteer and help make a difference in the lives of these families. With over 150 children enrolled in the after school program, mentor's are always needed. If you can commit to a regular weekly schedule, Bethlehem offers office assistant opportunities. This can include Administrative duties, as well as general filing, answering telephones, and paperwork. Emergency Assistance assist on Wednesday mornings, answering questions and helping with the application process. For this position, a background check will be conducted, and you must be willing to commit to a 6 month service. An excellent opportunity for groups of 5 or more, volunteers are needed on the weekends to assist with maintenance and repairs, such as painting and lawn maintenance.
NEWELL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
Becoming a fire fighter is a childhood dream. Why not make your dream a reality by donating your time to the Newell Fire Department? If you posses courage and a desire to help your community, this may be the perfect opportunity for you. As a volunteer firefighter, training is provided to help you receive EMT and firefighter certifications. To be considered, you must be 18 years of age or older, posses a valid North Carolina driver's license with a good driving record, a clean and neat appearance, and be able to pass a background check. You must also live in the city and be able to attend meetings as they occur.
Habitat provides home ownership to families who may not otherwise be able to own a home. Starting from the ground up, these homes are built in specific locations. People 16 and up may volunteer their services, skilled or unskilled. Jobs are available assisting with the construction of these new homes, as well as behind the scenes assisting with fundraising, serving on committees, and supporting the families. If you enjoy retail work, the Restore needs assistance in the store's daily operations.
Muscular Dystropy Association
Help Jerry's kids! The MDA provides care for those suffering from the disease, research,a children's summer camp, and more. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. You can help with the annual telethon, answering calls from those wishing to make financial contributions. Assist with the camps by providing physical and psychological support to the camper. Orientation and support is provided to all that volunteer.
