Applying makeup in 5 minutes

You've been there.

You've slept late and wake up realizing you have somewhere to be in fifteen minutes. You need a quick makeup routine that will take you out the door as quickly as possible. Here's what you can do.

First skip the foundation. I know that will make you cringe, but you don't need it if you're in a hurry. Foundation is basically for evening out your skin tone. It should not be applied in a hurry because that will just defeat the purpose and make your skin look like all kinds of weird colors. You can get away without foundation if you play up your features.

Begin with blush. You want to brighten that face. Choose a pink or a peach and brush it along your cheekbones to create a healthy glow even if you've just rolled out of bed.

Next apply some mascara. Just a little bit of makeup around the eyes can make a world of difference. Do the top and bottom lashes, but don't worry about a mascara brush or an eyelash curler.

Last do your lips. If you really need a pick-me-up, grab your brightest red lipstick. This will draw attention to your pretty smile and keep attention away from other areas that you might want to hide.

That's it. You're looking good and out the door in under a minute.

Of course if this kind of thing happens to you a lot you might want to consider keeping an emergency make-up kit in a bag by the front door. That way you can grab it as you run out, and you can apply your makeup when you reach your destination. (Please do not apply it while driving your car!)

For other last minute beauty needs, keep a pretty hair accessory on hand for emergencies. If you have long hair you can brush it out, pull it into a ponytail, twist it and then clip it. It's the easiest style going, and it will work for almost any occasion. Shorter hair can just be brushed. If you usually style your bangs but don't have time, slip a small barrette into the side to hold them back for a sleek look.

Choose small but sparkly jewelry in situations like this. You don't want to call attention to your look with anything big or clunky, but a little sparkle will take some attention off of your morning face.

With these tips you will be able to handle those days when you just can't get out of bed on time! Do it right, and no one will know the difference.
