What to do if someone posts a picture of you on Facebook that you don't like

Photo sharing on Facebook has become one of the main attractions to the site itself. It provides a way for users to show off their family photos, photos of nights out, pretty much photos of anything and everything. This is great for a user to share it with people that they choose to share it with. However, it also poses a problem. What if a user doesn't want to share a photo with the Facebook world but somebody is doing it without their permission? This can and does happen, on a regular basis. Fortunately there are many things that a Facebook member can do if they feel that their privacy is being violated by somebody else sharing pictures of them without their permission.

For a new user of Facebook, the term 'tag' may be an unfamiliar one. Basically, if for example a user has a photograph of a group of friends, they can write the names of all of the people featured in the photograph. Once a member has been identified in a photograph they have then become 'tagged'. If a user is tagged in a photograph then a link to their profile is accessible to everyone. This is brilliant for people who don't mind other users browsing through their profile, but not so great for those who don't want other members to do that. If a member has been tagged in a photo they will receive a notification on the Facebook homepage. This presents itself as a red number in the bottom right hand of the screen. Once they click the number a pop up menu will appear notifying them that another Facebook member has tagged them in a photograph on their profile. Once that link is clicked they will be taken to the photograph page so they can see where they have been tagged. If a member decides that they don't want to be tagged in the photograph in question then they can click the link that says 'remove tag'. This will not remove the photo, but it will remove any information that identifies the tagged member.

The next problem with photo sharing appears when it comes to the 'wall'. Again, for a new Facebook member they may not be aware of what the wall is. Basically, it is a page on the Facebook member's profile where friends and other members can post messages that can be seen by everyone. Not only can they post messages to be seen, but they can also post photographs and videos. This can be a really entertaining feature for members who don't mind people posting things on their wall, but for those who do, it can be a nuisance. There are several things that a user can do to prevent this from happening
