Poetry: Thanksgiving prayers

by Wellington Bhoote

Created on: November 15, 2009

An Autumn Prayer

When summer's sun is lowering

Slowly as days shorten, its rays glistening

On golden falling leaves, and sheaves

Of corn stored high for winter's feed,

And the darkening nights lengthening

Bringing November's chilly winds:

Lord, we thank you

For those riches you have given:

The seeds of spring; the fruits of autumn;

The bounteous treasures of our realm.

In palaces and in humble homes,

All together in your name,

Lord, we thank you;

And while earth rests through winter's snow,

Lord, we thank you;

For we know, that spring will come again

Blessed by your love eternal,

For all this, we thank you.

AMEN
