Being a child in the 1960s I was very fortunate to witness firsthand the cultural revolution that was the 60s along with some rather sad aspects such as the Vietnam war and the assassination of two Kennedys. However I think nothing defines the 1960s like the music that came out of that era. Rock and roll in 1960 was not even ten years old yet and the influx of new talent along with social conscience that came with it for many was breathtaking and groundbreaking . We had the bands like The Kinks, Jefferson Airplane, The Mamas and the Papas, the Motown sound and everything affiliated with the Woodstock era. It was quite frankly in my mind the ultimate era for creativity in the rock music genre.
And of course the British Invasion was a major happening starting In 1964 with bands like the Dave Clark Five, The Buckinghams and of course the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones have firmly cemented their legacy as easily the two out of five if not the top two acts in rock and roll depending upon whom you ask as all our taste differ. The Beatles gave their first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9 1964 I was not even 4 years old yet. The Rolling Stones were on the Ed Sullivan Show on October 25th of that same year. I still was not in kindergarten yet ! And I am not going to bother going into the history of both of these acts as it has been chronicled so many times now and all of us are well aware of the impact both bands have had on popular music. The Beatles broke up in 1970 and Sir Paul came out with the band Wings which was a radio staple of the 1970s and a major part of the soundtrack of my adolescence. Yes folks I am gettin up there! And no I do not require a walker yet ! Anyway to get back to my point after Wings I am of the opinion that Sir Paul really did nothing relevant from that time to now . And quite frankly I believe "Some Girls" was the last good album by the Rolling Stones .
Now do not get me wrong I wax nostalgia as much as anybody in my age bracket. Especially when what is considered talent nowadays consist of dance routines and jiggling everything God gave you! That has become the primary focus of todays quote unqote musical acts and melody lyrics and anything resembling musical structure and musicianship is an irrelevant component of song composition. So of course I am going to long for the days of old when hearing the harmonies of John and Paul and hearing Mick and Kieth do their thing. But we are
