My destiny
Locked in a bathroom
Hunger grows within
Try to be a good girl
Don't want to get hit again
The darkness becomes my friend
The cold tile floor, my bed
The thought of a loving family
Only a dream in my head
My fur is clumped and matted
My ears are swollen with pain
My stomach eats itself alive
But I try to be good, and not complain
A man is coming to look at me today
I have been through this before
They see the trouble that I may bring
And walk out of the front door
I hear the car in the driveway
The footsteps on the floor
I hear the doorknob turn
She opens the bathroom door
The light floods into my life
A sight I rarely see
She brushes me a little
In hopes that he'll take me
I try to hide my flaws from him
My infections and my fleas
I try to hide my biggest "flaw"
My fight with epilepsy
I cower when he reaches for me
I don't want to be hit again
But something is different about this man
I can feel his love within
He gently holds my matted face
And with a tear in his eye
He says, "I'm going to take you from this place"
"For if I don't, you may die"
He puts me in the back of his car
On a warm blanket on the seat
I take a final look at that house
As we start down the street
I now lay on my warm dog bed
All infections have been cleared
Medication for my epilepsy
No more swollen ears
I still think back to the beginning of my life
To the day that man came to see me
I now have a loving home
I guess this was my destiny.

I see your eyes
Looking into mine;
Inside my soul
The sun does shine.
Your love for me
Is absolute.
