Poetry: Where are you, God?

by J. Lee Kenser

Where are you my god?
I am suffering immensely
I am living on the streets
I am without food daily

Where are you my god?
I have seen my friends dying
My friends who praise your name
My friends who devote themselves to you blindly

Where are you my god?
Many suffer in their own minds
Many suffer from a daily torment
Many suffer from ridicule and pain

Where are you my god?
Have you just forgotten us?
Do we disappoint you that much?
Are the poor not trying hard enough to please you?
Are you truly feckless in your helping us?

Where are you my god?
We need you to save us from ourselves
Before we destroy ourselves from within.
