If you have pets, you have a responsibility and you would have to take care of your pets; treat them as if they were your children. When it gets really cold outside, you should keep your pets inside so they will not get sick.

Food

Make sure that your dog has plenty of food during the winter saved up somewhere in the house that will last throughout the whole winter season for just in case something bad happens, like your neighborhood gets snow so badly that it traps you inside of your home for a long period of time; make sure that you have enough food for you and your family as well. You should increase the amount of food that you normally give the animals because they will need it more during the winter. Make sure that they always have fresh water to drink inside. If the weather is not that dangerous and your pet is outside, make sure that they have fresh water as well. The water could probably freeze, and then the pet would not drink it and they would become very thirsty; you should check on them like every fifteen minutes.

Health

Another way you could take care of your pet during the winter is to take them to the vet and get a good check up before the weather gets worse. It is important that your pet gets regular checkups, so they would not get sick. If you see a sign of your pet getting sick, you should take them to the get a check up right away just to be safe. You should also let your dog get some exercise. If it is too cold for them to go out, you could let them get exercise inside. You could let them chase a ball, play fetch, or just play around with a chew toy. Another way to improve their health is to show them love. You should let your pets know that you care about them. If you never show your dog affection and caring, they could suffer from depression; please spend time with your animals.

Shelter

If your dog is outside during the winter, make sure that they are in a nice, cozy, warm shelter. You should keep them in a good shelter to prevent your pet from having hypothermia. On the following link http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hypothermia the meaning of hypothermia is pathology. Subnormal body temperature; the artificial reduction of body temperature to slow metabolic processes, as for facilitating heart surgery; I would not want that to happen to my pet.
