Everyone has the desire to communicate because reaching out to others is an inherent need within us. No one enjoys being isolated and speech, whether verbal or written draws people together. For some people verbal communication satisfies the need to link ideas and thoughts with others but there are those who benefit greatly from writing and some that must write!
Perhaps writers feel that the things they wish to say are important enough to want them preserved so that their thoughts will be heard for longer periods of time. Or possibly it's the creative act of composing a work of art in written form that fires their desire to write.
There are numerous reasons that people write but one thing that is common to all writers is that there's a certain amount of effort required. No matter how naturally writing comes to a writer they must still take the steps to sit down and write. A decision must be made to do it. It sounds simple but a successful writer once said to an amateur one You must write something often, no matter what it is!
This is excellent and noteworthy advice because ideas fuel new ideas. As with the bodies other organs the brain's functions ought to be exercised on a regular basis. Inspiring thoughts come more easily to those who purposefully think long and often, especially about challenging subjects.
To discover the writer within I suggest that one begins with those areas that the writer is passionate about. When the inner fire is burning the heat and light will be stronger and brighter. If something causes strong emotions, either positively or negatively the writing that springs from them will be forceful, bold and memorable.
Writing can be a healing process. Focusing the writing on strong emotions will cause a release of the emotional energy that's sometimes trapped in the mind and body, causing psychological and physiological health problems. The more the emotions are released by writing the more the body's energy channels will be cleared. Writing will become easier as the debris is shifted away and the inner writer becomes self aware and focused.
Poetry can be a good place for budding writers to begin. Though good poetry is not always easy to write poems can be short and there's a certain freedom from restraints in it. Creativity, intuition, dreams, feelings, loves, fears and hates can all be poured into a poem and when it's Free-form focus can be on the flow and inspiration of the piece.
I suggest that writing not only heals writers
