Divorce can be an extremely controversial topic depending on who is discussing it. It is something that - over time - has become more familiar in marriages and less frowned upon within society. Divorce used to be a taboo subject and was not common in marriages. Many carry a strong opinion on divorce and will typically not budge from their view and God is one of them. The Bible is clear of God's view on the topic; it states that God does NOT accept divorce.
The Bible discusses divorce a number of times in the Old and New Testaments. The most obvious verse that declares whether God approves or disapproves divorce comes from the book of Malachi in chapter two verse 16, 'I hate divorce,' says the Lord God of Israel. Although this is only one verse, it sums up what God thought of marriage; the verse confirms His disgust with the process of divorce. Another verse that clarifies God's stance on divorce is in Mark 10:9, Therefore what God has joined together [man and woman in marriage], let man not separate [divorce]. God is very loving but does not approve anything that breaks up relationships, especially divorce.
Many questions that are asked naturally require a longer answer than yes or no, and the question of God's acceptance of divorce is one of them. There is one exception that God accepts divorce, which is unfaithfulness. There are many verses (particularly in the New Testament) that explain this is detail. In Matthew 5:31-32, Jesus says 32But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery. There are many excuses couples use that lead to divorce such as: they've grown apart, can't solve their problems, they aren't the same person they married, etc. But according to God in the Bible, the only reason to get divorced is marital unfaithfulness as Jesus said. If one divorces for any other reason and remarries, that individual is considered to be committing adultery with whomever they marry. The only other way a person can remarry according to 1 Corinthians 7:39 is if a woman's husband dies, making her a widow.
Divorce rates have swelled and it has come too common in marriages which tear families apart and place stress on the children (if present in the marriage). God does not approve marriage and this should be enough to decrease the rate of divorce. There are no questions about His point of view on the subject.
