Evaluating Hillary Clinton's plan for ending oil dependency

by Jared Garrett

What Hillary Clinton has proposed is just another step toward expanding and strengthening the government's control over everything in this country. What a sickening thought: The government holding oil companies responsible for not only seeking the bottom line but also not being blood-sucking leeches that take unconscionable advantage of our dependence on fossil fuels. Okay, the fact is, the idea is a fairly good one, but it smacks a little bit of socialism, which is the real 's-word' in our country. It is a taboo that we screech loudly at and dodge with alarming alacrity. The real issue comes down to position, rather than solution. This used to be a pragmatic nation that kept its eye on solutions that would work, rather than taking positions that shored up our constituancies. Now it is all about positions. Take, for example, Mitt Romney and his newly announced presidential campaign. Media and many people are focusing on the positions that he has taken that others might not agree with, rather than looking at whatever plan he might have for making our country great or looking at his successful history. This is a sad, sad state of affairs.

So Hillary Clinton's plan for ending oil dependency may be a good one, but like all of these good ideas, it will be shot down, because it is less of a solution than a position that will not lose her valuable, already-counted votes.
