Christmas is a time when many people forget to live within their budget. It is a time when everyone wants to surprise their dearest ones with some wonderful gifts. The commercial trend has often a negative impact on the shopping behavior of many people and the seduction of impulsive buying can be really high. It is possible they can't resist the temptation of buying things which they don't need for a happy Christmas time.
Many items are really expensive during the Christmas period and people often forget there are more expenses than Christmas gifts. They need also money for decoration, Christmas dinner, Christmas cards, wrapping paper and some other expenses. These expenses can add up quickly if they don't pay the necessary attention to stay within their Christmas budget.
Here are some tips which may help you to avoid impulsive buying at Christmas:
*Planning
It is really important you budget your Christmas expenses in the beginning of the year. You need to plan more than only your Christmas gifts. Also your expenses for your Christmas tree, decorations, food and all Christmas related items need to be planned in advance. One you know how much money you need you can set every month a certain sum aside in your savings account.
*Make a list
It is best you make a list of all Christmas expenses. For Christmas gifts, it is maybe preferable to ask your dearest ones who you want to surprise with some Christmas gifts to suggest 3 or even more gifts. It gives you the possibility to choose between these gifts and you are sure to avoid wasting money on unwanted gifts. It is not necessarily to buy all gifts of the list and you can choose these which fit your budget.
*Avoid buying all Christmas items in the last months before Christmas
It is best you buy Christmas items in different periods of the year. You don' know always when you can buy them on the lowest price but it is really important to compare prices of different stores and look for sales. Online shopping can help you too for finding the best deals and it is maybe best to check also some price-comparison websites.
*Look to advertisements and sales throughout the year
You find almost every week advertisements in newspapers, magazines and local newspapers. It may happen you find suitable Christmas items with deductions of 50% or more and you will save a lot of money if you buy at that moment instead of waiting until the last months before Christmas. Clip also coupons and vouchers which you can use in groceries or other shops. It is also possible you find them in online sites and this can help you to avoid impulsive buying.
*Send e-cards instead of buying Christmas cards
Technology has changed and you can now easily send some wonderful Christmas e-cards to your friends and family. It is cheaper and you have the possibility to add a beautiful Christmas sound to your Christmas e-card. Many sites offer Christmas e-cards for free and you will find some which reflect the Christmas atmosphere more than original Christmas cards.
*Don't buy in a hurry
It is best you take the necessary time for shopping and you often avoid forgetting some Christmas items. This will save you more time to go back to the Christmas shops. It is also best you avoid credit cards because this can lead easier to impulsive buying and to spend more than your budget allows.
Christmas is a wonderful time and you have more pleasure of this holiday if you take the necessary time for shopping. If you take the necessary time throughout the year and plan in advance, you may buy more Christmas items for less money. It is the key to avoid impulsive buying and you gain time and money.
