The new year has arrived and you made a resolution to lose weight. Unfortunately, that resolution may become a thing of the past once you start having food cravings. Fortunately, there are a variety of ways that can easily help you kick those food cravings to the curb so that you can lose weight without having those extra obstacles.
Substitution
Generally, food cravings are triggered by a visual response. For example, we may be watching television and we may see a commercial for one of our favorite foods. We suddenly get a craving for that food if we have not eaten it in a long time. This is especially bad if that favorite food is unhealthy.
Instead of simply ignoring that craving and then fulfilling it later with a large meal, you can "substitute" that craving with a light fruit or vegetable snack. Fruits and vegetables have a great way of curbing appetite so that you stay full for at least 2 hours between larger meals.
More and more drinks
Many people do not get the recommended daily amount of water that they need. As a result, they are dehydrated without even knowing it. Fortunately, drinking more water is a great way to curb cravings. Essentially, you will be able to do two things at once: you will help eliminate the extra calories you may consume if you give in to your cravings; and you will hydrate your body, too. Monitor the amount of water that you drink by drinking out of a bottle or from a stainless steel water container. You may need to drink 6-8 16 fl. oz. containers everyday. (Measuring by using a red Dixie cup in the 16 fl. oz. size may also help.)
You can also drink real orange juice, pomegranate juice, milk, or any other healthy drink that will make you feel "fuller" longer.
Exercise
Generally, food cravings are created in our minds. If we take our minds off of those cravings, however, we will no longer have them. That is why it is always a good idea to start exercising whenever you have any of those cravings. By taking your mind someplace else, by relieving all of your extra stress, you are losing weight without putting too much effort into the process.
As you can see, when you follow the three tips above, kicking your food cravings is as easy as pie.
