Habits to develop to stay thin

by Joan Inong

Although many people think that staying thin is a difficult chore, it can actually be done by incorporating a few habits into your daily life. By changing your lifestyle so that you follow a few habits that encourage health, you will be able to keep yourself slimmer for longer. Here are a few healthy habits that will help you stay thin.

Diet in moderation

Whenever you hear the word "diet," you probably cringe. After all, diets are difficult to follow and enforce, and usually they limit what you want to eat. Besides, many of the diet options available may not be the most healthy. Some of those diets will have you drinking tonics and eating less solids, while others may encourage popping many pills and spending lots of money.

Instead of following those fad diets or feeling like you are being deprived, why not follow a diet in moderation? This is a diet that is easily incorporated into your daily life because it really requires little attention and focus. With this diet, you can eat whatever you want. You can eat a slice of cheesecake. You can eat a donut. You can eat delicious chicken pot pie. However, the only catch is that you have to have self control. You must be able to know when to stop eating, and how to control your stomach's needs.

Fruits and vegetables are also crucial snacks in this diet. Make sure you always have a fruit on hand just in case you are hungry in between meals.

Daily dose of exercise

In addition to a diet of moderation, you will also need to exercise. If you want to follow this diet, you will need to exercise for at least 1 hour everyday. 30 minutes of this exercise should be dedicated to stretches; these will tone and lengthen your muscles. The other half should be dedicated to cardio workouts, such as jogging or running. Exercising to music will help keep you motivated and will help you feel that time passes quickly.

Make exercise fun and a natural part of your day. For instance, if you have a choice between taking the stairs and using the elevator, take the stairs. If you can walk to your grocery store, do so at least twice a week instead of taking the car. If you have a dog, take it out for a walk in the afternoons before supper.

Mind Health

The mind is connected to the body, and the health of one affects the health of the other. When you keep yourself happy, you also keep yourself healthy. Exercising helps to relieve stress, since stress can encourage people to overeat to make themselves feel better (although some people will not eat if they are stressed). You can relieve stress in a number of ways, but it is important to keep your mind as stress-free as possible.

These habits are easy to develop and they are generally simple to follow. As long as you keep these habits going in your daily life, you can expect to become slim and stay that way.
