Free activities for Veteran's Day

The celebration called Veteran's Day is holiday in the United States that honors military veterans. The Holiday, observed on November 11th is also celebrated as Remembrance Day or Armistice Day in other parts of the world. In addition to the traditional ceremonies and laying of the wreaths, there are many free activities that are held on Veteran's Day. Different regions hold activities that are free for the public and veterans.

Flag raising ceremonies are popular Veteran's Day's activities and they are all free. On Veterans Day, visit your local area flag raising ceremony along with the whole family and get a lesson in history while enjoying a free and memorable Veteran's Day activity.

Fly overs are exciting and exhilarating displays for all to enjoy on Veteran's Day. Check your local listings for fly overs organized by any number of organizations. These flights can be done in helicopters, military aircrafts or vintage aircrafts. Fly overs are flights done at low altitude and is a real thrill for the spectators.

The 21 Gun Salute and cannon. The firing of guns and cannons at Veteran's Day's ceremonies are usually the highlight of the day's activities. Many families make the trip down to the ceremonial location to watch the day's proceedings while anxiously awaiting the 21 gun salute and the firing of cannons. It is a fitting tribute to the honor all veterans and service personnel.

School activities. Schools are great locations for free Veteran's Day activities. Often we overlook our local neighborhood school during Veteran's Day but they can be a great source of free, educational and entertaining activities. Entertainment includes color guards, songs, flag-folding, military vehicle displays, songs, drama, pancake breakfasts and festivals.

Free meals for Veterans. Veterans are usually treated to free meals or free appetizers on Veteran's Day. Applebee's is well known for offering free entrees. In order to get this, veterans are required to show identification as proof of military service. Other restaurants and groups also offer free meals or free menu items for veterans. Parades. You can find a Veterans Day parade in many cities and towns. This is a great way to participate in honoring veterans. Take in a concert. Several free concerts are presented on Veteran's Day. The presentations generally include patriotic music and other genres. The VA National Medical Music group is the largest medical music group in the US and many are associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs. They hold a free national US Veterans Day concerts in some cities. There are many other concerts to choose from including those organized by schools.

Free Park Admission. In many cities, free admission to parks is provided on Veteran's Day. You can also take part in many recreational activities for free in honor of veterans. Veteran's Day is a great time to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the nation's parks and recreational activities after attending your favorite Veteran's Day ceremony.

Patriotic music, parades galore and free dining are just some of the free activities available to the public and veterans. Check with your local community groups, veteran associations, government agencies and civic groups for free offerings on free activities for Veteran's Day.
