Watching Father in Nags head
In fierce solitude
you pilot illusive lines;
working to orchestrate
the dance of the blue-tailed kite.
A dessert
of sand stretches
parched and insurmountable
between us.
Contemplating the jagged shell
of an oyster
I wonder, did the irritation
become a pearl?
