With the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver coming up quick, those who plan on attending are going to want to pack for the climate. The weather in Vancouver, British Columbia during February is nothing sort of chilly.
With the average high being 7 degrees Celsius (45 degrees Fahrenheit) and lows being around 1 degree Celsius (34 degrees Fahrenheit) packing a heavy winter coat will be greatly beneficial. Other items you will want for your travels include: sweaters, hat, scarf, boots or thick closed-toe shoes, gloves or mitts and an umbrella. Packing clothes that keep you warm is the key to traveling in Canada during winter months.
Vancouver in the winter also has high amounts of precipitation in the form of snow and rain. The more water proof outer wear items you have the warmer you will remain. If you purchase shoes or boots prior to your trip, remember to also get a can of water-proof spray or oil for your footwear. By treating your shoes and boots twice by your trip, you will be saving your beautiful purchase from water damage. Leather gloves and hats usually have already been treated with some form of water-proof chemicals, but to be safe you will want to go over them again. For women traveling with leather purses, you will want to treat them as well.
Some other things to take into account when packing your bags are:
*In February Vancouver will get 9 hours and 25 minutes of daylight each day. This means you are going to want both a day coat and night coat. During the day the sun will help a little and you won't want to be so hot from the sun rays.
*February's average rain fall is 115.6 millimeters or 4.55 inches.
*During the winter months locals wear animal skin jackets to keep warm. They are better insulated then modern winter coats.
The cold weather, snow, rain and grey skies are normal for February as well as seeing flowers coming up. The end of February is the beginning of spring for Vancouver, the temperature will be on the rise by the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Remember to stay warm with every adventure on your trip, this is key to enjoying your time and the games. For those of you who aren't used to the cold and snow an extra layer is advised because your bodies are not acclimated to colder temperatures.
