The Coming of the Dawn
I met a bright and cheery girl
one dark and dreary day
who had a smile to frighten fear
and chase the clouds away.
I stopped and gently queried her
"Come, tell me what you know!"
Her words to me did register
to chase away my woe.
"I always look for sunny spots
that hide amidst the dark.
Where you might find a stone or stick,
you can create a spark.
What's more, I won't allow my face
to show a hint of frown.
Dismal thoughts to me are a disgrace
which serve to bring me down."
"What of this rain and dreary clouds
that come from overhead?
How do you think? What do you do
to have your joy instead?"
But my thoughts of work and toil and strife
my mind quickly forgot.
When her answer gave me such new life
I owed her quite a lot.
She said "I have light in my path
that helps me in my plight.
I know a God who loves me dear
and casts away the night.
When He sent His son to die for me
and take away my sin,
then He gave me control of the key,
to let the Savior in.
To show to me in each new day
the joy He would impart,
to teach me of His creation
and purify my heart,
And now I see the laughing child
and flowers in the spring;
I have a delight in all things wild,
I have a song to sing."
I knew at once she spoke the truth
and wanted what she had.
I put off the darker view of things
and did as she had said.
This new friend of mine, as she became,
was such a friend indeed-
Ev'n though I did not know her name
She showed my deepest need.
We talked and laughed and walked and sang
All along the road,
Going everywhere, we spread the news,
the precious seed we sowed.
No matter if it hail or snow,
in wind or in the rain,
The joy she is, the joy I know,
is better than champagne.
I hope one day to be the same
reflection of the light.
That in the midst of dark and rain,
I chase away the night.
Thank God for all He's given me
since that special morn.
When He brought the word that set me free
in the coming of the Dawn.

There's Silver Threads
There's silver threads across the sky,
New morning wonders, there up high.
We look for daybreak,
Camping near Weaverville
for Jill
Blind with sleep and darkness,
Ataxic with long inaction,
Insensate,
Reddish-yellow leaves speckled with fresh-crisp dew
little robin sings a mulberry tune.

All is darkness, swelling with the moon and stars.
Around you, fog creeps in, Before dawn.
The air is calm, the animals
