In today's uncertain economy, it is becoming vital for everyone to be as frugal as possible. One of the best and easiest ways to become more frugal is to do so at the grocery store. There are many things that one can do to become a savvier and more frugal shopper.
Here are some tips to help get you started.
*Keep a pantry inventory -
Keeping a pantry inventory is not as difficult to do as it sounds. Simply create a spreadsheet document on which you list all of the basic staples and other things you like to keep on hand. Keep a running tally of how much you have, and as you use something, check it off your list. By taking the time to create a system whereby you can always keep track of what you have and what you need, you will save yourself a lot of time and trouble.
Organize your pantry in such a way as to keep the items with the soonest expiration date closest to your reach. Go through the pantry periodically to clean out expired items and so that you can remove things your family doesn't like. Give those items to a food pantry or homeless shelter.
*Read the store ads online before you shop -
Looking at a store flier before you shop can help you know what's on sale, what store coupons may be available and where the best bargains are. By looking at this ahead of time, you can plan your menus accordingly and this will make your shopping time much more efficient.
*Use coupons -
You don't have to purchase a newspaper to be able to use coupons. There are several websites that have the same coupons that you can find in the paper and then some. Check out Coupon Mom, Smart Source, Coupons or Eversave. Take advantage of coupons you find on products you regularly buy or store coupons.
*Plan your weekly menus -
A simple way of saving a considerable amount of money is by planning ahead. That means that planning weekly menus can save you a lot of money. It keeps you from purchasing things that you may or may not need or from purchasing things on impulse.
*Make a list -
A grocery list helps you make sure that you get the things you need when you need them. If you shop with a list, it is less likely that you will forget something and have to go back to the store with it. When people have to go back to the grocery store to get something they forgot, they inevitably wind up buying other things as well. That means that you set yourself up to spend more.
*Avoid purchases of junk and processed foods -
Many people think that there's nothing wrong with packaged foods or junk food. If you take the time to look at the
