What do you see when you look out the window? Do the soft, billowy clouds catch your attention? Or is it the slowly approaching dark ominous cloud that warns of an approaching storm? The same window may prove to have two very different views. The same window and view may create a feeling of peacefulness for one while a feeling of panic for another. The view that we look at varies greatly depending on the glasses we are looking through.
All of us wear them, whether we are aware or not. We all wear our filtered glasses that created our perceptions on the world around us. Typically, the denser the lens, the more unaware the individual is. Every person in this world, no matter how young or old, has experiences that shape him and his resulting perception of the world. If your world has been filled with hurt and pain, it is likely that the glasses you wear are going to be targeted to pick up on this pain quickly. It's an instinctual mechanism designed to protect. The quicker that you can pick out these potentially harming situations, the easier it is to steer away from them. However, someone that has not experienced the same hurt and suffering you have may look at the same situation and see nothing possibly harmful about it. He may see it as a wonderful opportunity. There is nothing wrong with either view, they are simply different. The saying of you will not understand someone until you walk a mile in his shoes is a valid one. However, even then you will never understand someone else's perception. We all carry our own past, emotions and feelings that vary the view we take on each situation. Two people can experience the exact same situation, but take very different routes on the effect it had on them. Every person will chose to use the most fitting method for them at that moment.
The perceptions that we hold very clearly define the world that we experience. We directly create our reality through what we expect to happen. If you expect to have pain in your life, you will. If you expect to have joy, you will. By simply changing your lenses you can turn a mountain into a marble instantly. You are creating your world as you know it, moment by moment, simply by what you are expecting to see. Until you are aware though that you are the creator of your reality, you will continue to feel the lack of control in your life. The only thing that you truly control in your life is your experience.
If you chose to look with an open heart to all situations, you will see the love in every situation. You will no longer experience the feeling of being attacked by others, but see it as their own way of lashing out as a result of their own pain. We can't stop another from feeling pain or striking out because of it. However, we can stop ourselves from feeling hurt by others attacks. When you realize the truth behind the situation, you will not feel the threat. By looking through your rose-colored glasses, you can see more joy and happiness in your reality.
