How to obtain Wisdom

Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Those who fear God see Him as the Omniscient all knowing One. Where can we go that is better than the very source? It is my belief that fools live without taking God into account and become morally corrupt. When I say, "fear God" by the way, I mean having a reverence for His holiness, power and grace.

Wisdom involves literary and musical skills along with factual knowledge. Its proper use attracts the attention of others. Look at King Solomon,1Kings 4:34 Men of all nations came to listen to Solomon's wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.

You and I look at this man and plead to know how he could deal with 700 wives and 300 concubines. He didn't do very well for they led him astray. Solomon acted the part of a fool and didn't listen to God Who told him before hand, what the women would do. The wives were from other nations and God did not want him to inter marry. Solomon did not follow the Lord but did evil before Him.

Wisdom for Solomon was a gift from God because Solomon had asked for discernment and knowledge between right and wrong so as to govern the Israelite people. God gave more than he asked for;

1Kings 3:13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for both riches and honor so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life."

How many times has mankind gotten blessed by God and turned their back on Him. David was the father of Solomon and had observed God's commands and statutes. Yes, David did sin against God but, remember, David also repented and paid for his sin with the death of his son. Solomon did not continue with the God of creation but worshiped the gods of his wives. So, the kingdom was taken from him and most of it was given to Jeroboam. One tribe was left with Solomon so that David, God's servant would always have a lamp before the Lord in Jerusalem, the city where God chose to put His Name.

All we need do is look around and we can't deny that our society is on a steady downhill slide. Why is this? Well, humanity has become more and more out of touch with morality. We want to do it our way and we don't want God because He sets a lot of rules. This is not at all true. As any parent He loves us enough to set some warnings in place with boundaries. If you are a parent you should have no trouble seeing why this is done.

What is the reason for my telling my children not to venture into the street? Do you want your child picked up by some stranger? The prohibitions that God sets in place are for our good and our safety. Wisdom is apparent when we choose them rather than balk at all God has said. God is a jealous God and He will not share His glory with another. It belongs to Him. Other gods can do nothing for you. Dabbling in the occult is of no good to you, it will lead to Death and eternal separation from God. Where is the wisdom in that?
