Insomnia in Wikipedia is defined as a symptom or any of several sleep disorders characterized by persistent difficulty falling asleep despite the opportunity. 64 millions of American does suffer regularly from this issue each year. This number is still growing day by day. Stress or lifestyle let the researchers look out for the causes. But for a lay man who suffers from it, a simple question bothers them. How can one sleep well? Here in this article we try to answer this question by taking the help of traditional science of life also called as Ayurveda.
1] Eat early and Less Dinner:
The first and foremost suggestion that Ayurveda has to offer is to make sure one eats a little early and less that needed. Heavy meals can easily lead to upset stomach or trouble falling asleep. It might be also good if one goes for a short walk before going to bed after meals. Some researchers are saying that if we burn certain number of calories, then one might sleep well. If that is true then yes why not go out for a small walk.
2] Massage:
A soothing warm massage before going to bed could take one to a complete different level of relaxation. Choose your oil and the aromatic oil that you like or your naturopath choose for you .Chamomile, Lavender are just few names for one to choose from. Massage normally would relax you and also calm your mind and body, thus helping one to fall asleep easily. Ancient literature has always referred massage on feet's and hands helpful for those suffering from sleep disorders. So if you do not have time for whole body just massage your hands and feet's.
3] Warm Bath:
A warm bath with some nice aromatic oil, nice music is what one needed after all the nice massage. If possible have a bath, but if not even shower would do. Both massage and shower would make one relax the body and mind to make you help sleep.
4] Warm milk decoction:
Now this is something very secret but has been in used for ages in many Indian families. This is one of the best and proven remedy to cure simple insomnia and results are awesome. Just before sleeping make sure one takes warm milk with some honey or brown sugar or sugar with a pinch or two of Nutmeg. Yes Nutmeg the spice that one adds to coffee some times in Starbucks. Nutmeg is known as nerve calmer and thus gives apparently gives good results in making one go to bed.
5] Make it a ritual:
Understand it's very important that one make it a habit or probably some kind of ritual to go to bed at a set time every day. Start with early dinner, a short walk, massage, and then bath then warm milk and then off to bed. Yes success would not come that easily but once it is a habit results would come knocking at the door step for sure.
