its a fact you can buy a great guitar from ten pound and a rubbish one for five hundred, so dont always believe the motto "you get what pay for"
Although I must add, it is a decent rule of thumb. When buying a guitar you have always got to remember that the seller hasnt always got a clue about the guitar. These are usually the ebay sellers or classified ads sellers, whereas the stores usually know what theyre talking about.
So, if you buying off ebay or the like aleays be aware of dodgy deals, Ive seen people selling "Gibsons", then Ive asked them a few questions and found out its an epiphone, not relly worth 700, so always, always ask a lot of questions, make sure the guitar you are buying has a lot of pictures espec of the neck, the headstock, the pickups, the body, the machineheads, etc.if theres dust or cracks, walk away.
Cosmetic damage such as dirt or a worn in look isnt so bad, and can ass character so dont worry too much about this,If you can go round and take a look at the guitar then thats a bonus.
And always remember with sites as ebay, you are never sure with what you are buying until you check it out, but theres always a great bargain to be had if you stay patient, and be logical, (such as a 50 yamaha pacifica 112 i bought which retails at 150 and was brand new) whereas a guitar shop the prices wont vary much but you are generally assured of getting what you pay for, and usually a free setup too.
So remember to way the pros and cons of boyh of these, and good luck finding you dream guitar.
