Across The Universe
This film starring Jim Sturgess, and Evan Rachel Wood, is truly a work of art, with stunning visuals, and the best songs ever written, this movie is sure to please fans of the Beatles, and newcomers alike, with a clever script, and touching story. Jude, (Jim Sturgess) is a man from Liverpool, England, and sets out to find his father in America, but ends up meeting his best friends on his trip. Max, (Joe Anderson), Jojo, (Martin Luther McCoy) Sadie, (Dana Fuchs) and Prudence (TV Carpio). This Psychedelic musical, with sex, drugs and LOTS of rock n' roll, is surely one of the best.
Watchmen
The visionary director Zack Snyder faithfully adapted Alan Moore's graphic novel, into one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Watchmen looks so much like the graphic novel, it almost seemed as if I was reading it again. Gritty visuals and a complex story is a win-win. Watchmen was said to be impossible to film. But with Zack Snyder as the director, and a perfect cast, that statement is truly a lie.
The Blair Witch Project
Blair Witch deserves to be on \ my list because I think that it is the scariest movie of all time. But it's not a hack/slash type of thing like most people of today would call a horror film. Blair Witch scares you psychologically. It lets your imagination scare you. Your mind does all the work. Remember when you were a little kid, and when you were in the dark, your imagination would go wild? Well, your mind goes back to that state once you watch this movie. For a little while anyway. ;)
District 9
Neill Blomkamp's directorial debut is an imaginative sci-fi instant classic with a brilliant story, awesome weapons, and some of the best action sequences you could ever see. This is a movie I could never get sick of watching. The amazing special-effects, acting, and the superior directing are going to be remembered for years to come. Two thumbs up.
Batman Begins
Christopher Nolan always has a successful film with brilliant actors and a superb script, but when Christopher Nolan directs a batman movie, it is sure to be one of the best movies ever made, and this movie is no exception. The perfect actor to play Bruce Wayne, Christian Bale continues to show that he is an amazing actor, and with more great actors, like Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman, this movie is not only entertaining as a comic book movie, it is the first installment in a rich, thrilling drama, and will have people coming back for more.
The Dark Knight
With better acting, a better script, and better villains, this film is easily the best super-hero movie ever made. This movie also features one of the last performances of the Late Heath Ledger, (RIP) as the sick and twisted psychopath: The Joker. Christopher Nolan succeeds again with this spectacular film.
Toy Story
The first film of the Disney-Pixar team is my favorite, and it is my favorite movie of all time. This is another movie that never gets old. Clever dialogue, a unique and interesting story, and some of the most talented voice actors, there is nothing about this movie that I don't like. This movie will also be remembered for years to come, and its sequel deserves an honorable mention as one of the only sequels I can think of to live up to its predecessor. I'm sure I'll feel the same way on June 18, 2010, when Toy Story 3 is released.
