There are plenty of apps available on the iTunes store that have left me wondering why the developers would even think of such an app. Needless to say, Virtual Zippo Lighter is one of those apps. It is like the screen cleaning app for the iPhone. There is no app that can physically clean your iPhone's screen. Therefore, the app is rendered worthless and useless. The same goes for the Virtual Zippo Lighter. It does not light anything and the flame is not real, which means that it is useless for the person who actually wants to use a lighter.
I will admit that the graphics are somewhat deceiving and realistic. The developers at least had the sense to provide an app with decent graphics. After all, I have encountered plenty of apps that were paid for, and many that were free, that did not have good graphics. However, I do not think that even good graphics will save this app. After all, how am I able to use those graphics to my advantage? What is the point when I cannot light anything?
The only time I would be able to use this app is for a concert. I cannot afford to waste a whole Bic or Zippo lighter at a concert, so I guess I would be able to use this app because I won't be wasting any money. This thought, however, does not really help me. I do not attend many concerts and when I do, I rarely need to use a lighter. I can probably use this app whenever I feel bored. I could whip it out and just wave my phone around like a crazy person with a fake lighter. People would wonder why I'm holding up a fake flame, and I probably could not answer them to satisfy myself, either.
The truth is, even though more than 5 million people supposedly download this app, I cannot help but regret that I did. Maybe it is because I'm just not in the "in" crowd anymore. Maybe I don't understand the real intrinsic value attached to a fake lighter. Maybe, it is simply because I just "don't get it." Whatever the case, all I know is that I cannot recommend this app at all. I can only recommend it to people who want to waste their time thinking about what they should do about an app that offers virtually no possibilities.
