Tuscan design is about creating a warm and inviting atmosphere with olives, grapes, wine and detailed ironwork. Marble floors, terra cotta tiles, elements of water, archways and warm rich color.

Tuscany is noted for it's craft in textiles, metalwork and ceramics. The Mediterranean cultures have traded designs in architecture and design for centuries. European cultures incorporated their influences through out the Mediterranean regions, through architectural style and home interior designs. Beautifully handcrafted materials, intricately designed have made their way into the United States gracing homes with the same design elements and architecture that has been traditionally loved by the Mediterranean cultures for hundreds of years.

A lived in look creates warmth and charm which is what makes Tuscan design sought after. The comforts of the design elements- worn furniture and crumbling stone gives the feeling that the home has been cherished and lived in with love. Warm earth tones along with soft lighting gives the feel of a Tuscan sunset, it is what sets apart this interior design from more modern styles. In todays interior market many homeowners are after lots of lighting, however, Mediterranean style allows for a softer warmer glow using less artificial lighting and more natural light.

Rustic decorating accessories with lots of color and texture is reminicent of old world Tuscany. Terra cotta pots, marble flooring, antique Italian ceramics, wrought iron pieces and rich fabrics is what gives a home an authentic old world Mediterranean feel.

Use warm yellow-based colors, gathering inspiration from natural colors and elements are organic in Tuscan design. Savory foods can be used to perfect the right amount of colors and textures, ripe golden pears, clear blue streams, brightly colored flowers and perfectly aged wine. Accent colors such as deep red, dark blue, green and golds can be used in ceramics as well as rugs and other accents. Bronze dishes, platters and vases set on shelves reflect burning candles creating a warm soft glow adding to the feel of a setting sun over golden wheat fields. Ironwork, cabinetry and furniture are among the deepest and darkest shades. Copper cookware, planters, rustic tile counter tops, wrought iron pot racks, artwork and handcrafted designs showcased through hanging tapestries with red tones are fitting accessories in traditional Tuscan decor.

A handpainted buffet adorned with towering iron candlestick holders, candles, copper plated bowls of fruit, and a large handpainted landscape, this vignette brings high ceilings down to size. Tall ceilings are typical in todays modern homes but with over-sized pieces of artwork and furniture the height of the ceiling can be brought down creating an intimate cozy space.

Rolling hills, soft golden meadows enveloped by the sun and brightly colored flowers by luscious cool turquoise pools. Rich savory and aged wine, grapes, olives and rich succulent delicacies are elements evoking to Tuscan inspired design.
