In years gone by, the runways were filled with shoes of strange shapes and odd colors, with enormous design elements. This season designers are doing a complete turn about giving us more understated and sleek footwear for the coming winter 2009 season.

If you want to stay on top of the game, you need to make sure that your shoes are of a timeless designs for example the classic pumps, plain boots or the ever loving comfortable contemporary loafers. Picture the 1940's and 1950's of women footwear and then think updated styles.

There is no holding back when it comes to the shape of the toe of your shoes. We are now viewing anything from the very pointy to the square toe to the rounded toe. This season, boots are on fire. The super hot trends for boots this season we are seeing are the ankle-boots and over- the- knee boots.

Colors for this season are black to near-black, navy blue, dark green and dark violet. Also on the trend for this season is, cognac (a burgundy brown) and asphalt (a dark grey) colors. In addition, you will also find lots of light neutral colors and leather tones to offset the darkness.

Shoe fashion for winter 2009 we know boots are going to make a splash in comeback. The material will be both suede and leather. In the coming year, lace-up shoes and boots are going to be most popular. The sleek and highly fashionable lace-up with high heels and finishes like leather will make the statement in 2009. You can expect the colors to be bright and vivid to make up for the dark winter clothes.

Guess who is making a comeback? Yes you are right, Mary Jane's are back, this time she's high-heeled mixed with a little bit of school girl shoe's and vamp shoe's. You can expect a lot of buckles and really high heals thrown in the mix. The variations will include bright colors, luxe fabrics and sharply pointed toes.

In 2009 the cutout boots will woo you in winter as well as in early summer. "Designers have made the shoes last longer than the freezing winters by opting for open-toes, cut-away sides and even cut-out heels. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and buy high cut shoes that will last a number of months".

"Fringed boots will define the winter look in 2009. The height will be limited to ankle, with details like studs and tooled leather adding to the bohemian feel. You can go for short-fringed ankle-boots, in leather or suede, with short dresses or tights. Be it a party wear or a casual dress, these shoes go with one and all".

Skins! That's right, you can start thinking of your snakeskin's in all colors of the rainbow. Colorful skins, whether they are alligator, lizard, crocodile, or snake, will be a huge hit for winter 2009. The good news is you won't need to buy embellished styles, because the print and color will do all the talking.

Shoe trend for men this winter will be a bit more subtle than the women's shoe trends, but don't fear guys, there is something going on for you too. The key focus for men will be the toes on the shoe. A narrowed toe rather than a boxy toe is leading the way and these narrowed toes come in basically two trendy styles, that are the apron toe and the bicycle toe.

"The apron toe has the stitching that runs across the top sides of the shoe coming together in the front of the toe box to form almost an apron look as it follows around the entire shoe. The bicycle toe takes those two seams and runs them straight down the front of the shoe to the sole. An apron toe style can make large feet seem smaller and the bicycle toe does just the opposite.Look for both the apron toe and the bicycle toe with modern shaping that is not bulbous or bulky but sleek and sexy".
