He waves goodbye and says dad please come home soon,
a five your old boy thinks his dad (the soldier) is the one that hung the moon.
The boy was told that his dad had to go off and fight for freedom, something he didn't understand,
as the boy begins to cry and says my dad is my best friend.
His mother holds him and says he will be alright,
now son go to bed and sleep tight.
She knows this might be the last time she see her soldier alive,
so she runs to her room and begins to cry.
The soldier takes his orders and goes off to fight the war,
trying to remember his family, the ones he's fighting for.
Standing on the front lines facing an enemy in some far away place,
confident about victory is written all over his face.
He thinks of the ones back home that are left behind,
his family, the boy, and all those precious times.
Days without knowing if he's going to come back alive,
thankful of other soldiers who are standing by his side.
The fear is overwhelming not knowing if this is the last breathe he will ever take,
thoughts of his wife and kid and oh how their hearts would break.
The letters come and the letters go,
hot summers and dreadful winters suffering in the snow.
But the soldier sacrifices so many things,
for a country whose theme is let freedom ring.
Thank you soldiers for all that you are and all you become,
now get back safely to your wife and son.
