Poetry: Meaning of life

by Sarah Lewis

Blowing out the candles on your birthday cake,

Watching the leaves change each fall,

Seeing your children grow each year,

Catching that fly ball.

Loving, laughing, living for tomorrow,

Graduating with honors,

Just graduating at all.

Rainy days spent in bed,

Sliding in your white cotton socks down the hall.

Summers at the beach,

Winters in the mountains,

Feeling the salt on your cheeks,

Tasting the snow on the tip of your tongue,

Growing old,

Living young,

Eyes closing one last time,

Sweet oblivion.
