iPhone app reviews: Snowdome

The holiday season is approaching and that means that snow globes are in season once again. I began searching for Christmas-related apps because, frankly, I used to want it to snow so much when I was a child. Once I started living in a place which received snow most of the winter, I began to dismiss snow as something entertaining and fun. So, I love to look at fake images of snow and take the real thing for granted. With that said, that is the motive which I used to convince myself I needed to try Snowdome.

Snowdome, at first glance, seemed like a good idea. After all, for 99 cents, I could have received something worse. On occasion I do, but I think Snowdome is just a tier above "bad." I do not think that it is worth 99 cents, because of the following reasons, but at the same time I think that the developers could easily fix many of the complaints I have.

For example, the description says that Snowdome is "super-accurate" in its reproduction of the real thing. I do not think that Snowdome's snow is accurate, at all. I have been through enough snow to know how snow falls. It will fly everywhere, and there is no real "pattern." It does not conveniently make a "window" that has no snow so that you can look ahead of you. Snow does not fall around your sight.

With that said, I was extremely disappointed with the developers' rendition of the snow fall. I think that they should have studied how snow actually falls before creating this app. If they have never seen actual snow fall, then I do not think they were equipped or at the very least ready to create this app.

With all that negativity said and done, I will need to praise the developers' addition of 6 backgrounds and music. I think that these add to the Christmas-like spirit that the app brings. However, I do think that the developers might want to add a nifty feature such as allowing the user to upload his or her own photos. That would make the app even more interactive.

All in all, if you want a quick way to waste 99 cents, Snowdome is a great choice. However, I would rather wait for the developers to create some sort of update that will improve the quality of the snow fall, as well as add more features that may be more appealing to the user.
