Poetry: Thanksgiving prayers

by Mark Hurley

Created on: November 12, 2009

spirits of thanks

festive and fun as we shop

for the turkey the dressing

all the trimmings we will eat

tomorrow around the family table

thanksgiving abounds for those

who have not for some others

that man woman or child silent

hovered over a grate in a doorway

hungry thirsty and barely clothed

hand outstretched for a token

the change you got inside

will you smile and give eagerly

giving thanks it is not you

this year anyway who knows the next
